New Attendance Law

Attendance Matters! New South Carolina State Law goes into effect this semester!

SC ATTENDANCE LAWS MANDATE MINIMUM SEAT TIME REQUIREMENTS (120 HOURS PER CLASS) FOR CREDIT-BEARING COURSES. 
STUDENTS MAY ONLY MISS:
• 10 DAYS IN A BLOCK SCHEDULE CLASS (90 DAYS)
• 10 DAYS IN A YEAR-LONG CLASS (180 DAYS)
• 5 DAYS IN A NINE WEEKS CLASS (45 DAYS)

EXCUSED AND UNEXCUSED ABSENCES

ABSENCES, WHETHER EXCUSED OR UNEXCUSED, COUNT TOWARD A LOSS OF SEAT TIME.  EXCEPTIONS: FIELD TRIPS, COLLEGE VISITS (3 PER SEMESTER), & SCHOOL SPONSORED EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES .

EXCESSIVE ABSENCES MAY RESULT IN CREDIT DENIAL AND MAY IMPACT A STUDENT'S PROMOTION OR RETENTION STATUS.

SEAT TIME RECOVERY

STUDENTS CAN COMPLETE SEAT TIME RECOVERY TO MAKE UP REQUIRED HOURS AND ASSIGNMENTS. SEAT TIME RECOVERY CANNOT EXCEED 10 DAYS BEYOND THE ALLOWABLE AMOUNT REFERENCED ABOVE. STUDENTS WHO FAIL TO MAKE UP SEAT TIME WILL RECEIVE AN "FA" (FAILURE DUE TO ABSENCES). CONTACT YOUR STUDENT'S
