On Saturday, November 16, the Andrews Elementary School Girls on the Run team joined dozens of other participants at East Bay Park for the much-anticipated Girls on the Run 5K Celebration. This closing season event marked the culmination of weeks of dedication, growth, and teamwork for the girls, their coaches, and supporters.
Girls on the Run is a program designed to inspire participants to build self-confidence, embrace teamwork, and develop essential life skills. Volunteer coaches lead lessons that combine physical activity with lessons on managing emotions, forming positive friendships, and practicing empathy. The season concludes with a Community Impact Project and a celebratory 5K run, offering participants a powerful sense of achievement.
The atmosphere at East Bay Park was electric as girls, families, and community members gathered to cheer on the runners. Decked out in bright smiles and running gear, the Andrews Elementary team took to the course with determination, joy, and a spirit of camaraderie.The 5K is so much more than a run—it’s a celebration of everything they’ve accomplished, from building confidence to forming lasting friendships.
This season, the Andrews Elementary team also made an impact off the track with their Community Impact Project. The girls worked together to send items to victims of the recent Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina, showcasing their commitment to making a difference in communities.
Crossing the finish line was a moment of triumph for the girls, marking not just the completion of a race, but also the culmination of weeks of hard work, perseverance, and personal growth. The 5K was a tangible reminder that they can achieve their goals and tackle challenges with confidence.
