Finalists for GCSd Superintendent Announced

The Georgetown County School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously tonight to select four candidates as finalists for the position of Superintendent.

The four finalists are (in alphabetical order):

Dr. Bethany Giles is currently serving as the Interim Superintendent in Georgetown County School District.  Prior to this she served as Deputy Superintendent of Academics and Student Services for three years.  She was Executive Director of Secondary Schools and Athletics for two years, Principal at Carvers Bay High School for two years, Principal at Brown’s Ferry Elementary School for nine years, Assistant Principal at Rosemary Middle School for two years, and a teacher at Rosemary Middle School for five years. She served as an Athletic Coach at Andrews High School for nine years. She received a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from South Carolina State University, a M.Ed in Educational Leadership from The Citadel, an Ed.S.  and an Ed.D in Educational Leadership from South Carolina State University.

Mr. Gregory Hall is currently serving as Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education for Florence 1 Schools in Florence, SC.  He has served in this role for four years. Prior to this he served as Principal at Lady’s Island Middle School in Beaufort, SC for four years.  He was Assistant Principal at Lady's Island Middle School for three and a half years, and at Robert Smalls for one and a half years.  He was a music teacher/band director in Greenville and Walterboro, South Carolina for nine years.  He served in the United States Marine Corps for eight years. He received his B.A. degree from Furman University and a M.Ed. and Ed.S from the University of South Carolina.  He will complete his Ph.D at the University of South Carolina in Spring 2025.

Dr. Glenda Sheffield currently serves as Chief Academic Officer for The School District of Palm Beach County in Florida.  She has been in this role for five years. She served as South Regional Instructional Superintendent in Palm Beach for three years.  She was principal of William T. Dwyer High School for four years, principal of Howell L. Watkins Middle School for two years, principal of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School for four years, Assistant Principal at Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary for four years, Assistant Principal at Palm Beach Lakes Community High School for two years, Magnet Academy Coordinator at William T. Dwyer High School for three years and a classroom teacher for four years. She received a B.S. from Voorhees College, a M.Ed from Bowling Green State University, and an Ed.S and Ed.D. from Nova Southeastern University.

Dr. William Wright currently serves as Superintendent for Sumter School District in Sumter, SC.  He has been in this role for two years. Prior to this, he served as Superintendent in Hertford County Schools for seven years and Superintendent in McCormick County Schools in McCormick, SC for two years.  He was Assistant Superintendent in Harnett County Schools for two years, Principal Western Harnett High School for three years, Principal South Edgecombe Middle School three years, Assistant Principal at Durant Road Y-R Middle School one year, Assistant Principal at Southwest Edgecombe High School for one year, Assistant Principal at Nash-Rocky Mount Schools for two years.  He was a classroom teacher at G.R. Edwards Jr. High School for four years. He received his B.S. degree from North Carolina Wesleyan College and his M.Ed and Ed.D from North Carolina State University.

The board made its selection of the four finalists after a thorough review of all applicants and interviews with semi-finalists on August 12-14, 2024.  The finalists will be in the district on September 16 and 17.  There will be a community Meet and Greet on September 16 so that parents, staff and community members will have an opportunity to meet all four finalists. The Meet and Greet will be at 6:30 p.m. in the board room at the district office.
