2024 Teaching Fellows

Georgetown County School District (GCSD) is proud to announce that three of our seniors have been awarded prestigious Teaching Fellowships through the state’s Teaching Fellows Program, administered by the Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA). This program, established in 1999 by the SC General Assembly, aims to recruit talented high school seniors into the teaching profession and nurture their leadership qualities.

Kamora Reed, Benjamin Hammel, and Mary Cegledy have been selected for their exceptional academic achievements, exemplary service to their school and community, and their passion for teaching in South Carolina.

Applicants for the program undergo a rigorous selection process, including an online application, an interview, and a presentation in front of a panel of three educators, followed by a scored response.

As recipients of the Fellowship, Kamora, Benjamin, and Mary will each receive up to $24,000 in yearly scholarships (up to $6000 per year for four years) to attend a Teaching Fellows Institution in South Carolina. In return, they have committed to teaching in South Carolina for one year for every year they receive the Fellowship.

Kamora Reed will be attending Winthrop University, Benjamin Hammel will be attending Anderson University, and Mary Cegledy will be attending the University of South Carolina.
