Dr. Bethany A Giles

[Georgetown, South Carolina] – During the Tuesday, May 7, 2024,  Georgetown County School District (GCSD) Board of Trustees meeting, Dr. Bethany A. Giles was appointed interim superintendent effective July 1, 2024. 

“The Board is confident in Dr. Giles’ ability to serve as interim superintendent,” shared GCSD Board Chair William Gaskins. “She is very familiar with GCSD, and we look forward to working with her as we move through this transition period and work to identify the next permanent superintendent.”  

Dr. Giles brings 23 years of experience in public education, all with Georgetown County School District, including her current position of Deputy Superintendent. Prior to being named Deputy Superintendent in October 2023, she served in numerous roles including Assistant Superintendent for Academic and Student Services, Executive Director of Secondary Schools and Athletics, principal of Carvers Bay High and Brown’s Ferry Elementary, assistant principal of Rosemary Middle, and as a teacher at Rosemary Middle. 

As a native of Georgetown County and graduate of Andrews High School, Dr. Giles holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from South Carolina State University, a Master’s Degree from The Citadel with a specialization in educational leadership, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from South Carolina State University.  

Most recently, Dr. Giles completed a certificate in Executive Management from Francis Marion University and a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace certificate from the University of South Florida.  She is currently working on leadership training through The Center for Executive Education Leadership (CEEL).  

The Board has established an expeditious timeline with a posting for a superintendent to occur by June 1, 2024, and a name by mid October. Opportunities for district employees, families, students, and the community to provide input will be announced in the coming weeks.
