Child Find Clinics (BabyNet)

What is Child Find Clinic?

Child Find is a part of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that requires individuals who may have a disability to be located, identified, and evaluated. This clinic focuses on identifying developmental delays and disabilities in children ages 2 1/2 to 5 who are not enrolled in a public school program. The developmental screening and evaluation are free of charge. However, a parent must give written permission for the screenings. An adult must accompany the child throughout the screening process. We provide evaluations as necessary and work collaboratively as a team with parents to develop individualized services across a full range of community-based and school-based options.

It is recommended that you make an appointment by contacting Reanna Cohens at (843) 436-7118 or rcohens@gcsd.k12.sc.us.

Once your appointment is scheduled, you will receive a packet in the mail. Please bring the completed packet and the following forms to your appointment:

  • Birth Certificate

  • Immunization Record

  • Medicaid Card, if applicable

The screening team will complete:

  • Vision and Hearing Screening

  • Developmental Skills Screening

  • Communication Skills Screening

  • A review of all the information gathered

Once screening is complete, the team will make recommendations and schedule appointments with you if any follow-up observations or evaluations are necessary.

Note: For a child aged birth to 2 1/2, contact BabyNet at (843) 520-1830 for information regarding a developmental screening.
