Georgetown Leadership Profile

The Georgetown County School District is seeking an innovative, visionary leader who will work in partnership with community stakeholders to provide equitable educational opportunities for all students. A proven record of success as a superintendent, assistant superintendent, or equivalent level administrative position, and a doctorate degree are preferred. The successful candidate will have the following characteristics and skill set in these areas:

  A belief in and commitment to high expectations and quality learning experiences for all students.
 A deep understanding of teaching and learning and the ability to assess the effectiveness of instructional programs to make necessary adjustments if needed to assure the best interest of students.
 The ability to develop cohesive and supportive instructional leadership teams at the district and school levels.

  Practical knowledge of the functional areas of a school district including instruction, fiscal planning and accountability, and various support areas such as human resources, facility management, transportation, safety, and food service.
 Commitment to effective strategies to attract and retain a qualified and diverse staff utilizing transparent hiring processes.
 The ability to direct resources to classrooms to the greatest degree possible and also build community support for additional resources required to provide needed programs and services for a diverse student population.
 A decisive, courageous leader who utilizes a participatory process to identify and solve complex district issues while also being willing to make difficult decisions to benefit students.

  A leader with effective listening skills and the ability to actively engage with diverse groups of stakeholders.
 An approachable, accessible communicator committed to visibility in all areas of the county.
  Exhibits excellent communications skills and has experience in using technology as a communications tool.

 Has the desire and ability to build a positive culture of respect where there is openness and fairness to all.
 Understands the importance of transparency, teamwork, and communication within the district and larger community.
 A high energy, responsive leader who can build trust and is respected for integrity, honesty, fairness, patience, and impartiality.
