Georgetown County School Board seeks community, staff input in search process

The search for a new superintendent to lead Georgetown County School District (“GCSD”) has begun, and the Georgetown County School Board seeks input from employees and the community to assist with the process.

Community and staff engagement activities are planned for February 24-26, 2020 and will allow employees and citizens in all four attendance zones an opportunity to share feedback on the characteristics and skill set desired in the next superintendent.  A team from BWP & Associates, the national search firm selected by the GCSD School Board to assist with the search process, will seek suggestions, answer questions, and explain the search process during scheduled meetings and forums.

"One of the main outcomes of this community engagement process will be the creation of a Leadership Profile which will identify the characteristics and skill set our next superintendent needs to be successful in our district and community," said Jim Dumm, chairman of the GCSD School Board. "This profile will assist the search team in its recruiting efforts and the Board in its selection process."

On Monday, February 24 public forums led by members of the search team will be held in each area of the county at the following times and locations:

  • Andrews High School Auditorium at 5:00 p.m.
  • Georgetown High School Auditorium at 6:00 p.m.
  • Waccamaw High School Auditorium at 6:00 p.m.
  • Carvers Bay High School Auditorium at 6:30 p.m.

These Forums are open to anyone in the public who would like to attend and share feedback with the search team.

In addition, small group meetings will be conducted by search team consultants on February 25 and 26 at the J.B. Beck Administration and Education Center with established staff, parent, student, and community groups.

The search team will utilize input collected from forums, the small group meetings, and interviews with school board members to draft a Leadership Profile of the next superintendent. The Board will work with the consultants to finalize and approve this profile which will be used to both recruit and assess candidates.

In addition to community engagement meetings and forums, a community survey will be launched February 24 on the district website  and be open through March 30, 2020. Results of the survey will offer additional input collected during the search process.

The community engagement process is designed to allow anyone in the Georgetown County community an opportunity to share feedback as the Board works to find the next leader for the district. "The Board encourages and appreciates any participation in these planned activities," said Mr. Dumm.
