DHEC Consent Form for Face Masks

DHEC Consent Form for Face Masks
Posted on 05/20/2021

Since the beginning of this pandemic, Georgetown County School District has worked closely with DHEC and local health officials to develop and implement safety protocols and procedures to protect our students and staff. We will comply with Governor McMaster’s Executive Order 2021-23 to allow for facemask waivers for students.  In discussion with our local medical advisory panel, they support our decision to move forward with granting these waivers for our students.  The panel referenced the low incidence rate of COVID cases throughout our county and the high rate of vaccinations as reasons to support the waiver.

In response to the Governor’s Order, which directed DHEC to develop and distribute a form allowing parents and guardians to opt out of the face covering requirement in schools, Georgetown County School District has posted the form along with Frequently Asked Questions on its website www.gcsd.k12.sc.us.  A consent form is linked below for all parents.  In addition, a form may be picked up or be requested to be sent home from the school.  Parents wishing to choose this option should print and complete the form and have their student return it to their school. Those parents who want their children to continue to wear masks do not need to take any action.

The Federal Executive Order requiring masks to be worn on all public transportation, which includes school buses, remains in effect; there is no opting out for students riding buses.

GCSD will continue all other safety practices designed to protect our students and staff as recommended by DHEC and the State Department of Education.
